Cyberpunk's Subgenre: "Steampunk"

Steampunk is a term set in an era or world where steam power was still widely used—usually the 19th century, and often set in Victorian era England—but with prominent elements of either science fiction or fantasy, such as fictional technological inventions, or real technological developments like the computer occurring at an earlier date. It is a subgenre of fantasy and speculative fiction which came into prominence in the 1980s and early 1990s.

In other much easer words; what i understood from several websites that steampunk is a style or form of thinking usually expressed in novels, movies... is a look towards the future but it was between the 80s and 90s so it was called steam punk becuase steam was a really important source of energy...

Apart from time period, the main difference between cyberpunk and steampunk is that steampunk settings tend to be less obviously dystopian (Dystopia: An imaginary place or state in which the condition of life is extremely bad, as from deprivation, oppression, or terror).

The origins of steampunk date back to the pioneering science fiction works of Jules Verne, H.G. Wells, Mark Twain and Mary Shelley. Each of these authors wrote works featuring advanced technology and set in the nineteenth or early twentieth century.

An additional influence on the creation of steampunk are the Edisonade stories of the late 1800s and early 1900s, written by Edward S. Ellis, Luis Senarens and others, in which their characters Johnny Brainerd, Frank Reade, Jr., Tom Edison, Jr., and Jack Wright used steam-powered and technologically-advanced vehicles to adventure across the United States and around the world...
